What’s the Difference Between Tape-In, I-Tip, K-Tip, and Sew-In Extensions?

• Tape-In Extensions
Lightweight wefts with medical-grade adhesive “tapes” that are sandwiched around your natural hair. Best for fine to medium hair types and quick installs (typically 45–60 mins). Upkeep: Reinstalled every 6–8 weeks.

• I-Tip Extensions
Individual extensions attached with small beads or cylinders—no heat or glue. Great for active lifestyles and clients who want more flexibility in styling. Upkeep: Re-tightened every 6–8 weeks.

• K-Tip (Keratin Bond) Extensions
Applied strand-by-strand using a heat tool to fuse keratin bonds to your natural hair. Very discreet and long-lasting. Upkeep: Typically lasts 3–4 months before needing removal and reinstallation.

• Sew-In (Weft) Extensions
Wefts sewn onto a foundation of braided or beaded tracks. Great for thick hair and those looking for volume and length with fewer individual points of attachment. Upkeep: Tightened or moved up every 6–8 weeks.

What Is the Maintenance Like?

Maintenance depends on the type of extensions and your personal routine. In general, you’ll need:

• A follow-up appointment every 6–8 weeks for move-ups or tightening.
• Sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner.
• Regular brushing with a recommended extension-safe brush.
• Avoiding excessive heat at the root and using heat protectant.
• Deep conditioning treatments to maintain softness and moisture in the hair.
